Privacyverklaring

Laatst bijgewerkt: oktober 2026

Cost Plus Energy (“wij”) vindt jouw privacy belangrijk.

Vragen of verzoeken? Mail info@costplusenergy.nl. We reageren binnen één maand.

1 · De wachtlijst

Welke gegevens we verzamelen

Welke gegevens we ophalen

Welke gegevens we verzamelen

Welke gegevens we verzamelen

We bewaren de logbestanden hooguit vier weken. Je kunt hiertegen bezwaar maken (zie hieronder).

Jouw rechten

Privacy statement

Last updated: October 2026

Cost Plus Energy (“we”) cares about your privacy. This statement explains what data we collect and what we do with it.

This statement covers four situations that are separate from each other: the waiting list, connecting your energy data, the business contact form and booking a demo. For each situation, you will find below which data we use and what for.

Who we are

Data controller: Cost Plus Energy, a sole proprietorship (Dutch “eenmanszaak”) based in the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 42120740.

Questions or requests? Email info@costplusenergy.nl. We respond within one month.

1 · The waiting list

What we collect

Only your email address, and only when you enter it yourself in the signup form on our website.

Why we use it

Solely to notify you once, when our service launches. We do not use your email for any other purpose and do not share it with third parties for marketing.

Legal basis

We process your email address based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by ticking the box when signing up. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Processor

We use Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France) to store your email address and send the launch email. Brevo processes the data within the EU as our processor.

Retention

We keep your email address until after launch, or until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe — whichever is sooner.

2 · Your energy data

This applies only if you click “connect” yourself and give consent. If you don't, we retrieve nothing.

What we retrieve

  • The EAN code of your connection — the 18-digit number identifying your meter
  • Your electricity use per 15 minutes, and your feed-in per 15 minutes if you have solar panels
  • Your gas use per hour
  • All of this going back up to three years

This is detailed data: a consumption pattern can reveal when you are home, whether you have solar panels or a heat pump, and when you charge your car. We therefore treat it as personal data, even though your name is not attached to it.

Where it comes from

From Het Normo, the party that manages energy data exchange in the Netherlands. You log in there with DigiD (as an individual) or eHerkenning (as a business) and specify there which data we may retrieve.

We do not see your DigiD details. The login happens at Het Normo; we only receive an access token and, with it, the measurement data you released. Your citizen service number, name and address never reach us.

For a residential connection we retrieve different data. At Het Normo, quarter-hourly consumption currently exists only for large (business) connections. If you are a private customer we retrieve your standard annual consumption — electricity and gas, consumption and feed-in, normal and off-peak — plus three contract details: whether your connection can feed back into the grid, when your current contract ends and who your supplier is. We use those last two to judge when switching makes sense for you. We ask for nothing beyond that.

Don't know your EAN code? We look it up for you. Het Normo requires the EAN code of your connection before releasing your data, and almost no private customer knows it by heart. Enter your postcode and house number on the connect page and we look the code up in the EAN-Codeboek — the public register of the grid operators, maintained by EDSN in the Netherlands. Your address goes to EDSN for that and nowhere else: we do not store it, not in our database and not in our logs. Only the EAN code you then confirm yourself is included in your consent. We show you the address we found so you can check it, and you can always type the code in yourself.

You can also supply your data yourself. If you have a consumption export from your grid operator, your energy supplier or your smart meter (a CSV file), you can upload it instead of connecting. Before we store anything we show you what we read in your file — which period, which measurement interval and which columns we use for what — and we only take it in once you confirm. We keep your file unchanged alongside the extracted data, so we can read it again if our processing turns out to be improvable, and for just as long (see retention). The file is only read, never executed, and is not shared with anyone.

For a business connection we also ask for your email address. If you choose large-scale consumption (connecting with eHerkenning, or your own file as large-scale consumption), we ask for an email address. We use it to contact you personally about the outcome after the analysis, and for nothing else. As soon as your data is in, we receive a notification by email that includes that address.

Why we use it

To calculate what different energy contracts would cost you, based on your own consumption rather than a national average. We also correct your consumption for the weather, so that you compare contracts with each other and not with a cold winter.

We do not sell your data and do not share it with energy suppliers or advertisers.

What we infer from your consumption

To give you suitable advice we look at the pattern in your consumption and infer characteristics of your household from it. Specifically, we estimate whether you probably:

  • have solar panels, and roughly what capacity
  • have a heat pump
  • charge an electric car, and when
  • have a home battery or district heating

Under the GDPR this is profiling, which is why we say so explicitly. It is an estimate based on your measurement data, not information we obtain from anywhere else.

No decision about you is made solely by a computer. The result is advice you may or may not act on; we do not enter into contracts for you and do not pass any assessment of you to anyone. If you disagree with what we inferred, tell us and we will correct it.

Legal basis

You ask us for a comparison based on your own consumption. We use your data to make it: that is necessary for the service you ask for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). With Het Normo you also give your own consent for us to retrieve your data; you can withdraw it there at any time. If you want us to delete your data, email us.

For your email address with a business connection: you ask for the analysis and for contact about its outcome, and we process the address to meet that request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR: steps taken at your request prior to entering into a contract).

Who else processes your data

  • Het Normo supplies the data. For this they are an independent data controller — not our processor. Their own privacy statement applies to what they do with your data.
  • TransIP (Netherlands) provides the server that hosts both your data and our website, as our processor. The technical data about your visit (such as your IP address, in the server logs) is processed there in the Netherlands too. Since August 2026 the entire website runs in the Netherlands; no visit data goes to any party outside the EU.
  • Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France): for a large business connection, the notification that your data is in, including your email address and the EAN codes of your connections, reaches us by email through Brevo, as our processor. Brevo processes the data within the EU.
  • Microsoft 365: our email. If you email us something, for example your consumption file when uploading does not work, it is stored in our mailbox at Microsoft, as our processor. The notifications sent through Brevo also arrive there. Microsoft processes the data within the EU.

How we protect it

  • The access tokens to your data are stored encrypted, so they are unusable even from a database copy
  • The database is not reachable from the internet
  • All traffic with your browser goes over https

Retention

  • Your consent at Het Normo is valid for 90 days. After that we cannot retrieve anything without you giving consent again.
  • Your consumption data and your report are kept for 30 days after we made your report. After that we delete them automatically, together with your file, your EAN code and your email address. Want them gone sooner? Email us. Our encrypted backups hold them for at most 15 days after that. For a new comparison later, you provide your data again.
  • Your visit to the site (the temporary data needed to complete the connection: your EAN codes, the type of connection and, for large consumption, your email address) is kept while you sign in with Het Normo, for at most seven days. Once you return, for another 24 hours. After that it is deleted automatically.
  • Your email address (business connections only) is stored with your consumption data and is deleted together with it. The notification email we received about it is deleted within six months if no collaboration results.

3 · The business contact form

This applies only if you fill in the “Plan een kennismaking” form on our business page.

What we collect

Your name, your company name and your phone number, plus the time and the IP address the form was sent from. We keep the latter only to limit abuse of the form.

Why we use it

To call you and schedule an introductory meeting. Nothing else: no newsletter, no sharing with third parties.

Legal basis

You ask us to contact you; we process these details to act on that request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR: steps at your request prior to entering into a contract).

Processor

The notification of your request reaches us by email through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), the same processor as for the waiting list, and is then stored in our mailbox at Microsoft 365. Both process the data within the EU.

Retention

If no engagement follows, we delete your request within six months. If you become a client, the terms of the engagement apply.

4 · Booking a demo

This applies only if you book a demo on our page for energy advisers.

What we collect

Your name and your email address, the time you choose, and if you fill them in your phone number and a note.

Why we use it

To hold the demo and to email or call you about it. Nothing else: no newsletter, no sharing with third parties.

Legal basis

You ask for a demo; we process these details to act on that request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Processor

You book through Microsoft Bookings, part of Microsoft 365, which we also use for our email and calendar. Microsoft processes the data within the EU.

Retention

If no engagement follows, we delete the appointment within six months after the demo. If you become a client, the terms of the engagement apply.

Your visit to the website

When you visit our website, your IP address, the page you request and the time are recorded in the log files of our server at TransIP in the Netherlands. We need this to keep the site secure and available: to detect misuse and to fix outages. That is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep the log files for at most four weeks. You can object to this (see below).

Your rights

  • Access to the data we hold about you
  • Rectification if something is wrong — including what we inferred from your consumption
  • Erasure of your data
  • Restriction of processing: we keep your data but do nothing with it while, for example, a rectification request is pending
  • Portability: receiving your data in a usable file to take to another party
  • Withdrawing your consent (for the waiting list, and with Het Normo) at any time
  • Objecting to processing based on our legitimate interest, such as the log files of your visit
  • Unsubscribing via the link in every email we send

Email info@costplusenergy.nl to make a request; we respond within one month. If you ask us to delete your energy data, we erase it and confirm that we have.

Having your data erased, or withdrawing your consent with Het Normo

This happens in two places, and the difference matters:

  • With us — email info@costplusenergy.nl. We then erase what we retrieved.
  • With Het Normo — you gave separate consent there, and you can withdraw it there too. After that we can no longer retrieve anything. If you only do this, what we already hold stays until you also have it erased with us.

Cookies and local storage

We use no tracking cookies and no analytics. We do not follow you across other sites.

  • Your language choice is kept in your own browser's local storage (named cpe_lang) so the site remembers your language. That choice stays on your device and is not sent to us or to third parties. You can clear it by clearing the site's data in your browser.
  • If you use the connect page, we set a single short-lived, technical cookie (cpe_koppel) the moment you enter the access code. It lets you through to the page that one time only, is deleted immediately afterwards, and contains no personal data. After you sign in with Het Normo we set the same cookie once more for a short time (two minutes), so you don't have to enter the access code again.
  • On that same page we set a second technical cookie (cpe_koppel_sessie) valid for one hour. It exists only so you can upload a consumption file within that hour without entering the access code again. It contains a signed timestamp, no personal data, and is sent only to the upload endpoint.
  • When you upload a consumption file, we set a technical cookie (cpe_rapport) valid for 24 hours. It holds a random key that points to your upload, so that during that time you can open your result and your reports without that key appearing in a link. It is sent only to the pages of your report.
  • If you arrive through the page of a partner (for example an energy adviser), we set a technical cookie (cpe_partner_sessie) once you enter the partner code; it expires when you close the browser, and after one hour at the latest. It contains a signed timestamp, no personal data, and is sent only to the partner pages, the upload endpoint and the connection of several companies through Het Normo. Through a partner, too, Cost Plus Energy processes your data; the partner does not receive it.
  • If you connect the large connections of several companies through Het Normo, we set a technical cookie (cpe_bedrijven) valid for seven days. It holds a random key that brings you back to your overview of companies, even if signing in with Het Normo takes a while. It is sent only to that overview. Your browser briefly remembers in session storage that you are on that route (cpe_bedrijven); it disappears when you close the tab.
  • If you indicate on the connect page whether you are a private or business customer, your browser briefly remembers that choice in session storage (cpe_klanttype) so the page you return to can show the right explanation. It disappears when you close the tab.
  • Our test environment is protected with a password (HTTP Basic Authentication); that uses no cookie and is separate from the public site.

Making a complaint

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, tell us first — we will try to put it right. You also always have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
